Complete motorization of the St. Paul Police department effected October 16, 1930, with sixteen radio equipped squad cars in operation. |

RADIO: |
|
Establishing a police radio alarm system on June 21, 1930, known as station WPDS, at a cost of $12,414.86. |

|
|
POLICE TRAINING: |
|
A police school was established July 1st. This school consists of a course of one month's training to which 25 to 30 men are detailed for the purpose of technical instruction and physical betterment. Instruction is given in the expert use of firearms, Red Cross aid, police courtesy,police methods, and general information on new developments in the city. Practicing attorneys give lectures to explain legal technicalities peculiar to police work. Training is provided for the physical requirements in calisthenics, jiu-jitsu, and other forms of bodily activity conducive to the development of strength, and agility. |

POLICE UNIFORMS: |
|
Adoption by the uniformed branch of the department of a new uniform of forestry green, with leather puttees, and abandonment of the old familiar "blue coat" style. |

TWENTY-FOUR HOUR SCHEDULE: |
|
The entire department is operated on a basis of three 8 hour shifts. Every part of the city is constantly patrolled by the police radio cars. The city has been divided into 16 districts, patrolled by a like number of cars. These districts are also patrolled by 6 detective cruiser cars. |

Inauguration of a twenty-four hour schedule in the Bertillon and automobile theft division. |

Inauguration of an accident investigation squad to investigate all accidents, especially drunken driving. |

RECORD BUREAU: |

This division, a new one in the St. Paul department, was created under the general re-organization plan, after an exhaustive study was made of modern filing and recording systems, as practiced in various cities throughout the country. |

CRIME INVESTIGATION: |

Inauguration of a crime investigation squad, composed of picked members of the department to investigate all crime. |

|
TAG WINDOW: |
|
Establishment of a night sergeant at the tag window to take care of tags for the convenience of the public. |
|
|
|
WOMEN'S DIVISION: |
|
Re-organizations of the police women's division with a superintendent in charge. |
|
|
|
INCREASE IN PERSONNEL: |
|
Increase in the personnel of the Bertillon, check and forging, pawnshop, and automobile divisions. |
