Police Whistle Publication

The Police Whistle was an internal publication distributed to department personnel to share news about department members.

Many members of the department were called to serve in the military during World War II. Of the documents we have, much is dedicated to passing along the status of members called to serve.

Background information: One of the Saint Paul Police Officers mentioned is Lt. Keene McCammon, who was flying in a bomber on July 30, 1943 and was shot down by the Germans. McCammon was one of many taken as a prisoner of war and held until the end of World War II.

The American Women's Club of Amsterdam has an article written about the incident and McCammon that details some of what he and other Americans suffered. Read the article here.
